This is the website of the Edinburgh & South-East Scotland Branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). We are an independent organisation campaigning for real ale, community pubs and consumer rights, with branches run by volunteers throughout the UK.

CAMRA supports well-run pubs as the centres of community life – whether in rural or urban areas – and believe their continued existence plays a critical social role in UK culture. CAMRA also supports the pub as the place to consume real ale (also known as cask-conditioned beer, or cask ale) and to try one of the thousands of different styles now produced across the UK.

Our Branch

Our branch, founded in 1975, covers a large geographical area, stretching from the City of Edinburgh in the north, and through much of the Lothians and the Scottish Borders. Edinburgh has had a long and proud tradition of producing real beer – a tradition almost lost at one time in the recent past, but now revived. Find out more about what’s happening at this time of the year in the Branch Diary.

Are you a member of our branch? Make sure you register your email address so we can let you know about branch events, campaigns and other news. You can edit your contact details on the main CAMRA website.

Don’t forget to check the News regularly to find out the latest branch news. For forthcoming local real ale-related events, see the Events page or the Calendar.

Visitors to Edinburgh, the Lothians and the Scottish Borders

Whether you are interested in the unique appearance of the taverns and other drinking establishments in the heart of Edinburgh, or simply want to sample traditional real ale, brewed here in Scotland or elsewhere in the UK, click on the Pub Finder and select the Edinburgh options. This also allows you to find real ale outlets near to where you are staying.

You may however be wishing to explore the areas around Edinburgh in the Lothians, either along the coastline of the Firth of Forth, or further inland. Perhaps you would like to go further afield to take in the unique atmosphere of the Borders. In either case there is a section of the Pub Finder for you. Again - just click on the Pub Finder.
