Real Ale Events


In this section we will bring to your attention events such as pub-based mini real ale festivals. Events organised directly by the branch are listed in the Branch Diary section, and cater for members. If you are not currently a member but are thinking of joining have a look at that section to see what you might be missing. All venues are in Edinburgh unless otherwise noted.

The events that will be listed below are not necessarily organised or endorsed by CAMRA, though, naturally, we will only list here events in outlets that have a good track record with real ale.

Raise Your Glass exhibition
5th March - 25th June (Monday to Saturday 10am - 5pm)
Museum of Edinburgh, Canongate
Brewing Heritage Scotland invites you to explore the fascinating development of one of Scotland’s most famous industries. On display will be photographs, objects and documents used in the manufacture and the promotion of beer. Entrance free.

Raise Your Glass exhibition: Tours of the Canongate area

Starting outside John Knox’s House, Hight St.
Organised tours of the Canongate area during the exhibition period, highlighting where the breweries did exist at one time and to tell their history and fascinating stories.
There is a maximum number of 20 to attend each tour, and will last 1.5 hours.

Currie Beer & Curry Festival
10th - 11th June (6pm start on Friday and 4pm on Saturday)
Currie Community Centre, 280 Lanark Rd W, EH14 5RU
Over 50 real ales. Organised by Currie, Balerno & District Round Table to raise money for local good causes. Tickets £22.50 (including 10 tokens); over 65s £6 (with no tokens). Both tickets include a commemorative glass. Tokens are for 1/3 pints. See link above for tickets.

The Plough Inn’s First Birthday
11th June
Plough Inn, Leitholm
Also launching of newly revamped Beer Garden, featuring four cask ales instead of the normal two.

Allanton Inn Beer Festival

Starts at 5pm on Friday 17th. With ales from around the UK.

Scottish Real Ale Festival
7th - 9th July

Hops in the Garden
11am - 11pm, 9th July
The Walled Garden, Archerfield, East Lothian
Ale and music festival featuring Knops beers, in aid of Leuchie House national respite centre. Tickets £10 early bird or £15 on the door.

Nether Abbey Beer Festival
4th - 6th November (12 noon start each day)
Nether Abbey Hotel, North Berwick
Returning after a 10-year break, with up to 50 real ales from around the UK, including some “from the wood”. Free entry. Special CAMRA rate for accommodation during the Beer Fest.

Around 100 cask beers and a selection of traditional Cider and Perry. The 2016 Featured Brewery is Loch Ness Brewery from Drumnadrochit.

The Barracks, Berwick-on-Tweed
Runs from 12 noon each day Fri-Sun, with the Food Festival open from 10am Sat and Sun, when an entrance fee applies (£2). Dog-friendly.
